Supporting America's Farmers and Ranchers

Statement

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the conference report to H.R. 2, the Agriculture Improvement Act. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding passage of the bill:

"Today, I voted to provide certainty and stability to America's farmers and ranchers as they work to provide our nation with food, fiber and fuel. This farm bill, which now heads to the president to be signed into law, provides our agricultural community with five years of certainty by improving vital disaster programs and trade provisions, expanding access to broadband and bolstering investment in research and innovation.

"While this bill includes sound reforms to improve the integrity and efficiency of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), I do feel that it fell short of what was passed by the House in June. It is important that we continue working to provide the legislative solutions needed to help Americans move from poverty to prosperity -- where they can flourish and live the American Dream.

"Overall, I was pleased to see Congress come together to support America's farmers and ranchers. This farm bill strengthens rural America so that we can continue to grow our economy and provide more opportunity for all hardworking American families."
